The Foreigner that cultivates my Father’s land

The Strenght of an African Man

Dear brother,

whose eyes bear vision to the unseeable,

whose hands hold the path to our future,

whose feet lead the way to our wealth.

Dear brother,

whose mind shapes the meaning of our existence,

whose words reveal the truth we cradle in our fears,

whose hopes transforms our work to purpose.

Dear brother,

you give life to what is obsolete and you churn out food from the dirt in your hands.

You are simply an icon of resilience and a picturesque vision of a meek mountain that nestles the airy trees and steers the restless rivers.

“Every dreamer knows that it is entirely possible to be homesick for a place you’ve never been to, perhaps more homesick than for familiar ground.”

– Judith Thurman

IMG_4300.JPGThis is sacred land, clasped at its core are the stories of vigour and persecution, culture and a profusion of possibility. This is sacred land of a simple people, with complex minds and diligent hands, whose enigma has brought tremor to the earth and fear to tyranny. This is sacred land of a peaceful people, whose quarrels have served as mirrors of change,  building the ideals of tomorrow and correcting the ills of the past.

The Job

A moment ago I found myself searching for a ‘job’ online and nothing halts the job seeking process quite like having to write a cover letter. It is astonishing how for the first time I was thrilled to write one, after all it is about myself. The more you get to know yourself, the easier it becomes to speak of your strengths and weaknesses. The part that I want to share though is when I had to ask myself, “why branding?” I’m currently studying at the Vega School of Brand Leadership, as much as when you are within the confinement of an institution you detest it, my journey at the school has deepened my connection with branding.

As a little child I was never  the loudest, but I was always the most intuitive. I am fascinated by the actions, reactions and movements of people and I have seen the emotions that surface when we interact with brands. We as people do not use words to portray who we are, brands are who we are.

There are brands that make us feel bold and alive, there are brands that bring calm and peace, at times there are brands that makes us retract into our shadows. We feed our dreams with the content we consume everyday, pursuing brands who speak directly to us in the language we love to hear, grab us with scintilating imagery and inspire us with actions we wish to take.

What a time to be alive indeed, digital, virtual reality, the possibilities embedded in data, I want to be a part of it all.
